Multimedia Publishing  & Distribution

Multimedia has radically altered the perceptions and boundaries of the publishing and content industries.

Today, new distribution media and networks allow and encourage consumers to interact not only with content suppliers, but also directly with publishers and content creators. Users will increasingly be able to move easily between the blurring roles of creator and publisher, performer and audience. As we move into the Information Society, the speed of communication and accessibility of information will become even more important. Many of the Commission's projects in the field of electronic publishing are currently involved in assembling support tools, guidelines and procedures exploring the development of new multimedia products for creating, re-using and distributing multimedia information.

Digital media publishing in its widest sense is expanding at a rapid pace and will continue to do so in the years to come and many of these media-rich services are evolving rapidly from pioneering text-centric, online services now widely available via the Internet.
